Little Red Map Table

Back again with a furniture makeover.  I’ve had this little table for a while and couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it.

Its a cute little fold down, and I knew I wanted to do something special with it so it would stand out.  So I chose Annie Sloan’s Emperor’s Silk which is almost a fire engine red.

Then the fun part.  I wanted to do a little decoupaged map to give it special character.

The picture doesn’t quite do the table justice.  It looks like its not quite dry, but I used a light wash on the top giving it an aged affect.

Short, but sweet.

Bedside Table Lamps

I’m finally taking steps to overhaul some rooms in my home, beginning with a few furniture updates. First, the master bedroom.

I was blessed to have the opportunity to both design and oversee the construction of my home back in the early 80’s, and have been well content until lately knowing certain areas just need a good updating. Unlike some, I have never been one to repaint or move furniture around just for the fun of it. It’s not that I don’t like change, I was just comfortable with the design and furniture. Then I went and bought a new living room set, and got the redecorating bug.

So stepping out, I begin with table lamps for the master bedroom. Here is a before shot. It started out what I like to call pea green. Not a bad color, but the master bedroom has blues in it, and the green just wouldn’t blend in.

Table Lamp

I almost didn’t get a before shot because I was so excited to get started. First, I painted with two coats of Annie Sloan Aubusson Blue.

Aubusson Blue A shot after both had dried (almost).

Then came the decision of what to do next.  I chose Annie Sloan Louis Blue, but did not give complete coats … almost hit and miss. Sorry if the pictures are a little too bright, I’m still learning the photography end of blog writing.

Then I added Annie Sloan Old White and distressed.

Here’s a shot right after waxing and ready for their new shades.

And a couple of the finished product.

Granny’s Fold Down Table

I’ve been wanting to redo a table I inherited from my Great Grandmother (“Granny”) for several years now, and have finally taken the time to do it. Here’s what it looked like before (this is the side that was least used).

And a few more of the before (the well worn side) …

The top was also extremely worn, but I knew the chalk paint would cover everything, so I didn’t even sand it.

I started with two coats of Annie Sloan’s Versaile chalk paint.

I couldn’t wait to take pictures so you’ll notice the top isn’t quite dry yet.

and then dry-brushed with Olive. The nicks and dings just gave the table even more character than before.

and those legs … drab to dazzling.

Last was to wax with clear and come behind with touches of dark. Well, what cha think?

Then I set the table. I took plates and the salt/pepper shakers we used when I was growing up. Brought back such wonderful memories. Sweet right?

And the finished table. I think my Granny would have been proud.

Updated Harp Chair

If you didn’t read about my harp chair project, click here to get caught up.

After a few weeks, I decided that the chair really needed a new seat.  I liked the gray, but boy was it hard on the hinny.  So I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased new batting, foam padding, and material (used a 40% off phone coupon).

I didn’t take any pictures of the upholstery job … mainly because I was doing it at night and the lighting was poor.  But the couple I did take are below.

Harp Chair

I’ve had this sweet little Harp chair for 58 years.  I love it, but it needed a serious update.

I only have one picture of some of the original chair.  I got so excited I forgot to take a few before shots.  Its a learning curve folks, what can I say?

I used on this project, Annie Sloan’s Antebes Green

Then a little distressing and dark wax

I even used Annie Sloan to paint the chair seat

Here’s the before
